Men’s Overcoat Season is Here

It’s that time of the year again when waking up early in the morning is going to be a hard task. While we have to since many of us don’t have any choice, let’s take fashion and the style factor under consideration to put our minds at ease. Not only we want to look good and stylish, but making sure we have an up to date wardrobe.  This brings us to Men’s overcoat. Its season is here and there are plenty of styles to choose from.

Perfect for fall and winter, overcoats are for business and casual. Wear it with pants or jeans, doesn’t really matter. Also, with sweaters. Just make sure the time and place is right.

Want to step out casual for shopping or a short trip to a bar or restaurant, an overcoat with jeans and sneakers is the perfect fit. I’d add sunglasses and a scarf with it as well if it’s going to be a windy day.

Should they be expensive?

An overcoat doesn’t have to be an extremely expensive one. On a budget folks can afford one or two easily. And I think every man should’ve at least more than two. More than three if you live in a place where it snows a lot. That gives you the option to choose a different design and color every time you’re out and about.

But, I’d also not go for an extremely cheap one out there either. Keep in mind, quality is essential than quantity. Spend good money on your item based on its quality. So, a big no on going for cheap ones.

Are they complicated?

I hear from friends whenever we talk fashion that overcoats are complicated. But if you ask me, they’re very simple, only if certain rules are followed. For example, make sure it’s not too long. I see that many men out there wear their overcoats long. See below, I’ve selected the ones that are above the knees.

Overcoats going past the knees will cause problems and discomfort. One of them is to make sure you’re being extra careful to not get it dirty. Plus, a long overcoat past the knee is a bit too much, I think. Remember the goal is to look sharp with it. Not tacky. And always be a proponent of quality. Yes, going that route will be pricey, but it will be a smart investment in the long run.

  2. Hey Yama,

With winter approaching here (I live in the UK) I an once again in the market for a new coat.

Based on style, I’m drawn to the Twill Topcoat. It looks fairly lightweight but warm to me, which is ideal. Is that right in your experience?

    1. Hi Nate, thanks for your comment. Yes, topcoats are usually lightweight and it’s one of the main reasons people buy them.
